The town of Dryanovo is situated at the crossroad between Northern and Southern Bulgaria, near the towns of Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo. It`s famous with preserved nature, rich history and healthy climate.
Nearby is the Bacho Kiro cave, which has yielded fossils of modern Homo sapiens dating from at least 46,000 years ago—the earliest physical evidence of our species that has yet been found in Europe. This was proven in 2020 by scientists from the Max Planck Institute in Germany who have analyzed bone fragments discovered in the cave.
There is also remains of ancient Roman, Byzantine and medieval Bulgarian fortresses in the vicinity. Like a real fortress is the Dryanovo monastery St. Michael the Archangel as well. It was established in the 12th century. Although the monastery was demolished three times, it become one of the centers of development of the Bulgarian Christianity and culture and nowadays it continues to attract worshipers and tourists.
The architectural appearance of the region is heavily influenced and still reminds of the Renaissance period. Dryanovo is a hometown of Renaissance building genius Kolyo Ficheto (1800-1881). You can see three buildings in the town by him – St. Nicholas Church, Ikonomova House and The stone bridge across Dryanovska river. One of the main sights in the town of Dryanovo is Kolyo Ficheto Museum where 3D models represents 14 works of the builder.
The spirit of the past is successfully preserved in the expositions of Historical museum – Dryanovo.
