The only museum of this type in Bulgaria offers its guests a true journey through time

Established in the 15th century, the town of Troyan captivates with its nature, architecture and crafts. In the Bulgarian town, located at the foot of the majestic Stara Planina Mountains, there is the MUSEUM OF FOLK CRAFTWORKS of the same name. The team of the museum, established in 1924, will also have its own stand at the Bulgarian tourist exhibition Holiday&SPA Expo 2026 from February 12 to 14.
Exhibitions of artistic crafts in the region, “Renaissance and Liberation from Ottoman Rule”, by sociologist Ivan Hadzhiyski, the educational program “Museum in a Suitcase”, the exhibition “Balkans” – all of them will be a highlight of the team, which will welcome visitors from Bulgaria and abroad in Hall 3, Stand C11 at Inter Expo Center.
About the Museum of Crafts

The MUSEUM OF FOLK CRAFTWORKS in Troyan is the only specialized museum in Bulgaria that presents the products and tools of local crafts masters.
The first hall recreates the atmosphere of the Troyan Renaissance bazaar on a market day – a place where traditions, meetings and the artisan spirit come to life.
The next three halls trace the development of ceramics – from prehistory to the formation of the characteristic Troyan pattern.
On the second floor, woodworking, metalworking crafts, as well as traditional fabrics and clothing are presented. In the tenth hall, visitors discover valuable donations and stories about the museum’s donors. The exhibition also includes reconstructions of a pottery and leather workshop, as well as the second floor of a Balkan house with two main rooms – the house and the room.

QR codes have been placed throughout the exhibitions, showing the processes of making and decorating various items. The museum also offers a VR walk through the bazaar, which transports visitors to the heart of Troyan during the Bulgarian National Revival.
Exhibition “Revival”

The exhibition tells the history of the settlement through documents, photographs, graphics and objects. It traces the development of the economy, education and culture in Troyan, the participation of Troyan residents in the revolutionary movement, the April epic under Mount Maragidik and the feat of Novoseltsi in 1876. The focus is also the winter crossing of the Troyan Balkan by the detachment of Gen. Pavel Kartsov and the participation of Troyan residents in the War of Liberation 1877–1878
The highlight of the exhibition are the models of emblematic buildings in Troyan during the Bulgarian National Revival – the church “St. Paraskeva”, built in 1835, the Mutual School from 1847, the “Yellow School”, completed in 1872 and the inn of Vasil Spasov, in which in 1871 Vasil Levski established the Troyan Revolutionary Committee.
Exhibition “Ivan Hadzhiyski”

Ivan Hadzhiyski (1907-1944) – a prominent Bulgarian sociologist and publicist, founder of the social psychological school in Bulgaria. Since the 1880s, his native house has been provided for the management of the Museum of Crafts. It is located on the main street of the city, where its commercial part – the bazaar – used to be. The house was renovated and modernized in 2007 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Hadzhiyski. It tells about the personality of Hadzhiyski and recreates the atmosphere of his time through a stylish documentary exhibition and household items. The first floor functions as a restaurant.
